GIB® Plasterboard Installation FAQs
-
In many cases, yes. Small cracks, dents, screw pops, and minor watermarks can usually be repaired and blended so the surface looks like new again.
Where damage is more severe - such as swelling, mould, or ongoing moisture issues - it’s often better to replace the affected sections rather than patch over it. We’ll assess the condition and recommend the most reliable, long-term fix, not just the quickest one.
-
Fixing and stopping are the two stages that take plasterboard from bare sheets to a paint-ready finish.
Fixing is the installation - cutting and securing plasterboard to the framing.
Stopping is the finishing - taping joints, covering fixings, and applying multiple coats to create a smooth, seamless surface.
Done properly, the stopping stage is what makes the difference between an average finish and a flawless one.
-
Costs can vary depending on access, project size, and the level of finish required, so there’s no true one-size-fits-all price.
As a general guide, plasterboard installation and stopping is typically priced between $60–$120+ per m² depending on the scope, finish level, and site conditions.
At Holfix, we provide clear, itemised quotes based on your specific project - so you know exactly what’s included and where your budget is going.
-
Timeframes can vary depending on job size, complexity, and finish level, but as a general guide:
Fixing plasterboard is relatively quick and often completed within a day for standard rooms
Stopping and finishing typically takes 2–4 days, as multiple coats and drying time are required between stages
On a per-square-metre basis, installation and finishing are usually completed over several days rather than measured strictly by m², due to drying times and finish quality requirements.
-
Yes - fixing is only half the job.
Without stopping, you’ll still see joints, screws, and uneven surfaces. A plasterer (or stopper) finishes the plasterboard so it’s smooth, seamless, and ready for paint.
At Holfix, we handle both fixing and stopping, so the entire process is consistent - and the final finish reflects that.

Strong and straight - dependable framing starts here.Wall & Ceiling Linings Done Right the First Time
Getting the fixing stage right prevents costly issues later, regardless of the lining material used. Poor alignment or fastening can lead to visible joints, cracking, or uneven finishes. Our focus is on accuracy from the outset, ensuring all types of wall and ceiling linings, stay true, stable, and ready for a seamless plastered result.
Our GIB® Fixing & Wall Lining Installation Process
Every installation follows a structured process — from checking framing and layout through to precise fixing and joint alignment. We install GIB® plasterboard and other lining systems to specification, ensuring correct fastener placement and spacing. This creates a consistent surface ready for plastering and skimming services and long-term performance.
New Builds vs Renovation Installations
New builds allow for efficient installs, while building renovations often involve working with existing structures, uneven framing, or partial replacements. Holfix adapts to the conditions on site, ensuring new linings integrate cleanly with existing walls and ceilings — especially where sections have been repaired or replaced.
Preparing for Stopping & Painting
A high-quality finish starts at installation. We fix linings with the next stages in mind, ensuring surfaces are even and ready for stopping and plastering services without rework. This streamlined approach helps deliver a consistent final result across Auckland and Northland projects.
Ceilings, Feature Walls & Complex Spaces
Not all installations are straightforward. Ceilings, bulkheads, and feature walls require careful handling to maintain alignment and finish quality. We install a range of lining systems across standard and complex spaces, ensuring clean lines and tight joins that hold up once completed with interior painting services.
Working with Builders, Homeowners & Property Managers
Holfix works alongside builders, homeowners, and property managers to deliver reliable lining installation on time and to specification. Whether it’s part of a larger build or a standalone job, we keep communication clear and projects moving.
